B*ll*cks to It!

This blog is for my final, official run/race of 2014, and the end of the year from "How it all started".

While looking for my next race before the year ended I came across Fylde coast Runnings Movember Bollocks to it.

At the time it was men only. I was a little disappointed so looked around, there was a similar run in Manchester. Maybe I'd enter this one instead.
However, FCRs event then opened up to women, and I entered.

I bought myself a stick on moustache, and ordered a tee to run it in.

Unfortunately my custom designed tee didn't arrive in time, my fault, I ordered too close to the event, and my tashe fell off :(  Not my fault, cheap!

Good huh? I'll wear it next time :) And get a better tash!

The usual nerves kicked in, and I decided that these would never go away, ever. Just something to get used to!

Despite this I was looking forward to it. A flat road run with medal and goodie bag. I was good at 10k now, I could do this. Easy ...

I did worry what the weather would be like, especially at the seaside!
November, cold, wet, snow!

The day arrived. Another early start on a sunday morning. The weather was mild for November, not raining, which was definately my 'mardy trigger'.

My hub, bless him, drove us to Lytham, St Annes, Lancashire. I'd been before, it's nice.
We had to be there at least half hour before to register, pick up number, use the loo, let the nerves kick in etc.

The weather was surprisingly mild, quite sunny even. I got in position, about halway, not to get trampled by the elites and vets, but not to start [and finish] at the back!

We were off!

The elites, vets and generally better than myself runners passed me, and I settled into my slow but comfortable pace.

After a few 'K' I kept my eye on a girl in front who seemed to have a similar pace, and kept her in view. This was my way of pacing. It was a comfortable run, and I counted down the distance. Running 10k still seemed long, but it was 'just' an hour.

Soon be over.

Don't go too fast, you'll burn out.

I managed to keep the 'pacer girl' in my sights for the majority of the race, I lost her in the final k or so as I began to tire.
I'd got caught up in the moment and set off too fast.
Something a lot of inexperienced/new runners do, something I always did and had to learn not to!

I remember coming down the front, it was just 'round the corner' and the finish would be there. Over the grass ...

Oh it was so hard to run the last few metres across the grass!

I crossed the line, grateful it was over.

Switched off my strava app, collected my water, and, of-course, my medal :)

What is Movember?

Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as depression in men, prostate cancer and other male cancers.

What has Movember done for men's health?

'Ten years ago in a Melbourne pub, two young men were chatting about fashion trends over a beer when they decided the moustache deserved a comeback and persuaded 30 friends to grow a 'Mo' for charity - for ten dollars a go'
