Seaside running

There was another 'local' run the day after my birthday and I wanted to do it!
I asked my hub if he'd take me and entered the run.
I was nervous and worried, like usual, but I was looking forward to it. A flat road run with a Medal and Goodie bag, and we planned to have a breakfast after.

10k (6mile) was still a distance for me, an hour of running was tiring!

Especially in the summer.
I hoped I wouldn't be the last over the line ...
The day arrived and we travelled to Southport. An early set off as usual. The event looked quite big with runners and spectator's milling around. A DJ tent Massage tent Fast food van and others gave a busy, well organised and professional feel.
I was nervous.
My hub took my pre run photo I used the loo a few times :/ then got behind the starting line with everyone else.
It was timed (pressure, nerves)
Count down. Cheers. We were off.

I had my headphones on listening to my music and the reassuring 1k etc. from Strava. I settled into my slow but steady pace and ran my race.

At 5k the water station was a blessing. I was so hot! I 'ran warm' anyway, and despite the race being an early start, it was getting a warm day. I gulped some water and threw the rest over myself. At this point I was lapped. Runners were finishing and I was only half way!
Mildly discouraged at my slow pace I carried on. Just another 30 slow hot tiring mins to go.

Finally the finish line was in site. I was so relieved, it had been a hot, tiring run.
I picked up my pace for the finish, crossed the line and turned off Strava.

I gratefully grabbed a bottle of water  and my goodie bag.
It had some good things in it. The best being my first proper medal.
I wore it proudly and my hub took my photo.

We watched some of the other runners come in (I wasn't last), clapping along, cheering.
We then went to a near by cafe and had a chippy lunch and a cuppa before leaving for home.

Safe to say this had been my favourite race to date and I've entered to run it again this year, this time it's on my birthday!

Oh, and not coming in last is the least of my worries, as I have a 10k PB to beat (pressure).
